Name will be easier to spell

Nebraska Citians who are acquainted with Sister Joseph Marian were assuredly very much pleased with the naming of the Sister to head the Ursuline Sisters.

In her new job, Sister Joseph Marian will be superintendent over about 600 Sisters who are teachers in Catholic schools in four states.

It is easy to understand why she was elected for the job. As principal of Lourdes Central High, she attracted respect from her many students.

Her successor at Lourdes is Sister Victoria, whose friendly disposition with us out-siders, has made our contact with the school pleasurable.

Best wishes to the Rev. Richard Steinemann who leaves after 10 years at St. Mary's Catholic church. His successor is the Rev. George Heinzen, whose name will be easier to spell. It took me a couple of months to get Father Steinemann's name spelled correctly. He will go to Centerville, Ia., the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Coates and family, former Citians.

Mr. Coates was manager of Brown Shoe Fit in Nebraska City. (Sorry Father, the Coates family is John Wesley Methodists).

Which reminds me, I should have asked the folks at the Methodist church foodstand at the county fair in Syracuse to sign a paper or card that I ate a meal there t'other day, so Doctor Prouty will know I patronized the stand as he suggested in church.

One of the fine features of the Otoe county fair are the home economics and 4-H divisions where fair goers may see everything from quilts and rugs to canned goods and a variety of pastries.

It might be well to mention here that through the cooperation of Mrs. Louis Poggemeyer and Mrs. Ebert Kramer, the News-Press was able to take a number of pictures in those divisions.

Virgil Pitstick, Nebraska City, has been named head of the publicity for the state cornpicking contest and not Virgil Hastings, as appeared in a recent story. Virgil P. says he thinks mebbe he can get out of a big job, but Virgil H. says the only publicity he is interested in rat' now is about that final filtered stuff.

Virgil P. is a good man for the job. He is a good photographer and has reported news on many occasions.
