EVERYONE'S DOING IT!
THE financial report of IDEB shows capital investments in the Whingy Dingy Windmill company, the Slump Pump Oil company and Wishy Worshy News Publishing company for a total investment of $39.89 (I like to show the "cents" like the retailers).
The total, somewhat less than at first believed, is accurate, according to the accounting firm of Tollars and Scense.
Capital outlay, the spondulix shelled out to keep agoin', was 15 cents for tobacco (pipe smoker . . . no cancer sticks), 25 cents for hair oil, 79 cents for razor blades (so, I'm rich and like the stainless steel ones) and $1 for unmentionables . . . I like that term.
One of the prettiest and least used parks in Nebraska City (only Nuckolls Square is used less ) is Riverview park next to the river accretion land. The shelter is going to pot with apparent vandalism, but the grounds have generally had good care by Ed Cole and his crew.
Its seems a shame the park is not more developed. With a few more roads through the park so picnickers don't have to walk that long hill, perhaps the park would get more use.
A fella complained the ot[illegible] day about the increased c[illegible] of schools in Nebraska Ci[illegible].
No one disagrees. [illegible]st is going up and up.
BUT — you're getting something for your money, podner. A right nice piece of what you gaze upon on west Central Avenue.
The city tax rate may hold firm year after year compared with the school tax rate . . . but then the city doesn't have a new city hall, or paved drives through parks, either.
You get what you pay for.
UP ON THE NORTH 40.
We've got weeds, weeds and more weeds.
Les Carr sez ta heck with that watering in the hot weather, only the weeds grow . . . and you know, I think he is right. I've got the nicest crops of water grass and 'tater weeds in town.
Not mentioned about the recent river flotilla with all the officials was who provided the gas. Former Mayor Bill Dawson and the Sinclair folks donated the stuff.
This was the year I was going to buy a boat . . . and I didn't so mebbe next year.
