Dear Mr. and Mrs. Gieseking

Don't ieel too badly about your car. Truth of the matter is, all of us have been getting gasoline tanks filled during the price war, but none of us have been unlucky enough to have a fire break out.

A trucker pulled into an Omaha service station recently where the war was in full force, filled his tank and asked for a barrel to fill and take home.

The deputy assessors have jobs similar to mailmen.

The big exception is that many people hope the dog will bite the seat of the pants of the assessor. Mailmen on the other hand are welcome fellows. Their jobs are getting the information to the public. But the dogs don't know that.

Deputy assessors actually aren't thought of as unwelcome people. They are a fine lot of cordial, cooperative individuals hand-picked by Assessor Howard Zimmers. Give them your cooperation. We can all learn something by lending a hand.

Perry Merritt walked down Central Avenue the other day with both hands in his pockets looking over the main drag. Perry recently sold his second hand store to Flake Seed Center. Perry said he plans to enter some other business, but for now rest is important. He has been ill for some time.

Dear Dick.

There's nothing wrong with Nebraska farmers. The Jaycees didn't hesitate to choose Lynn Handy, from Percival, Ia. as the outstanding young farmer just because a river and state line separate the communities, Nebraska Citians like to think of Percival folks as part of the family. Didya know that when the first organizational meeting was called to build a sale barn in Nebraska City that among those attending and whose suggestions received consideration was Rep. Paul McElroy of Percival?

Otoe countians showed a lot of interest in the state centennial at a recent meeting. There's no doubt Otoe countians want a part in the 1967 celebration. Just what will be done will depend on the suggestions that likely will b asked by the committee.

My first suggestion is beard growing. Now to keep peace in the families since 1967 is some time away, my suggestion is that only a few grow beards until 1967 namely the mayors of towns, councilmen and village board members.

Dear weekend golfer.

I found your cigaret lighter on No. 4 tee. You can have it by identifying the initials and giving 25 reasons why you were playing golf in January.
