Quail with a fly swatter

Indications were today that the River Rat Association may file a suit against the Omaha Chamber of Commerce for attempting to take credit for the formation of the society.

Benjamin Ryan and Winston Rashleigh, incorporators, stockholders, chairmen of the board, treasurers and trustees, said at a recent visit to Nebraska City, a group of Omahans docked boats here and attempted to assume the title of the gracious river organization.

"We'll sue," they declared.

Wilma McIntire, secretary of the Community Chest, said the groups of contributors pictured in The News-Press recently with 1963 Chest plaques gave $6 or more to the campaign.

Dr. Carroll Prouty, drive chairman, seems to be doing a bang-up job. His biggest problem is not getting volunteers, but getting the workers to turn in their reports.

"Nebraska Citians have been generous," he said. Anyone not contacted may call Miss McIntire to make a cash donation or pledge any amount.

Foy Thayer, who knocks down quail with a fly swatter, or something similar, didn't get to attend the Minnesota-Nebraska football game. He bargained with himself for a time and decided he wanted a certain shotgun instead.

I'm kinda glad he decided to use a gun to bring down game. Max Showalter, the game warden, couldn't find anything in the law book about swattin' 'em.

Secret bargaining results are known.

The News-Press today learned some of the details of the post office collective bargaining.

These include:

Jesse Parker — That no postal employe shall hold the position of adjutant of any American Legion post more than 25 years.

Harley Rakes — That no postal employe shall be a master sculptor and plaster modeler unless first approved and licensed by the U.S. Department of Arts.

Bob Rawlings — That no postal employe shall bowl better than a taxpayer.

Topper Eloge — That no postal employe shall have a better looking lawn than his neighbor's.

The Syracuse school band members need not lower their heads for receiving a "2" rating at the Ak-Sar-Ben show in Omaha.
